Costs | Become a Member
In order to join the IAM (and SLAM) as a Full member, you will need to take and pass the IAM's Advanced Driving Test.
However, to help achieve this goal, you can also join as an "Associate
member", and join a local group such as ours.
There are many reasons for doing this, but primarily it gives
you access to our "observed drives". These drives can help develop & tune your skills in preparation for the test.
To become an Associate member, you can purchase what's known as a "Skill for
Life" package.
Skill
for Life is a package that gives you everything you need in order to work towards & pass your
Advanced Driving Test. The scheme, which is provided directly by the IAM includes ...
- Associate membership of a local IAM group such as SLAM, with invitations to group events.
- An initial assessment with one of our fully trained observers.
- The ability to book assessment & observed drives with SLAM, to help coach
you in preparation for your Advanced Driving Test.
- A copy of "How to be a better driver", the definitive guidebook to advanced
driving techniques.
- Your Advanced Driving Test with a qualified examiner.
- An IAM Advanced Driving Certificate on passing the test.
Upon passing the Advanced Driving Test, Skill for Life also covers your first year's membership of the
national IAM, including ...
Just want to see how good your driving is & maybe make some improvements without
any further obligation ? Then check out the IAM's
DriveCheck
scheme. For a one-off fee, the IAM will put you in touch with SLAM (or your local group) who will arrange a single check drive with one of their observers. The
assessment, which lasts approx. 1 hour includes the check drive and a full
debrief.
Of course, if you enjoyed your drive and want to continue it further, then
you're very welcome to join the group, and the IAM as an associate and
continue to work towards your Advanced Driving Test.
All local groups such as SLAM are charities working in conjunction with the national IAM. At the
