Motorway guidance (and assessed drives as usual) at Banstead. Places are limited on our popular motorway guidance course so book early. This is only open to associates and members, not the general public, and there is a small charge. This session involves a short presentation followed by an assessed drive with a Group Observer.

Tuesday 20 May, 7.45, New Malden
Robert Keep, Highways Agency Operations Manager will talk about the work of the Agency’s Highways Patrol Officers. Find out what they really do and hear about common issues with driving on our local motorways. You’ve probably seen the daft antics of some motorway drivers on the road or on TV, now come along to hear what the professionals see day-in, day-out.
Later, there will be a visit to the Motorway Control Centre at Godstone: come along to hear more and register your interest – numbers are limited so you’ll need to book.

Tuesday 17 June, 7.45, New Malden
Inspector Jerry Jones of the Met Police will talk about the Traffic Operational Command Unit and actual incidents to highlight the issues, difficulties and investigative skills required in dealing with serious road traffic collisions. He’ll have a Police vehicle and will demonstrate the equipment used, such as speed gun, automated number plate reader, etc.

Croydon Motor Show. Can you spare an hour or two to help publicise the Group’s activities? You’ll be able to visit the Show as well, so it won’t be all work!

The work of the ‘bloodrunners’, a local group of biker volunteers who transport emergency blood supplies to hospitals; and John O’ Groats to Lands End in 19 hours – a charity dash on bikes.

Simon Brownings, Station Manager at Kingston Fire Station will talk about vehicle-related incidents the Fire Brigade are called to: what goes wrong, how they get people out of wrecked vehicles.
